| Larry Cline's Memorial Service
will be held Sunday May 25th at 11:00am |
Dear Friends,
With much sorrow, we would like to inform you of the
sudden passing away
of Mr. Larry Cline, the Secretary of the Vedanta Society of Portland,
at
about 7:15pm on Monday, April 28, 2008. He was 59 years old. Larry
was a
long-time member of the Society and had lived at the temple for the
last
seven years. He was a member during the time of Swami Aseshananda and
was an initiated disciple of Swami Shantarupananda.
The evening of his passing, he was enjoying his work in the yard up
until 6:00pm. At around this time, he went up to his room. As usual,
we
went to the shrine for meditation at 6:30pm, but Larry was not present.
Afterwards, we inquired about him while Swami Shantarupananda was
distributing prasad in the library. Soon after this, we found Larry
unconscious, in a chair in his room. We immediately called 911. The
paramedics came quickly, but were unable to revive him. Both the
paramedics and the police were very kind and helpful. Larry passed
away
peacefully while gazing at the image of Sri Rama. His face retained
a
look of serenity after his passing. The cause of death is unknown.
He will be remembered for his deep devotion, earnest dedication to
service, and kindness to all. He worked tirelessly in nearly every
facet
of the Society’s work, from his secretarial and event-organizing
duties
to his enthusiastic interest in gardening. He had a special love and
affiliation for Sri Rama and, over the years, served many of our revered
swamis. His unexpected passing is a great shock to us.
His memorial service will be held on Sunday, May 25th, at 11:00am
in our
chapel.
